Just when I thought I was getting good at this stuff, I looked over the Grammy winners 2010 list and realized that my predictions were way off. Most people would have thought Lady Gaga would have taken six Grammys this year. But, of course, it was Beyonce whose name appears on the Grammy winners 2010 list six times.
Good thing I didn’t bet any cash until payday on who was going to win. Everyone knew Beyonce would get a few awards, never mind six? And Lady Gaga only appears twice on the Grammy winners 2010 list, which was a surprise to me. Well, at least Kanye West didn’t have cause to jump up on the stage and make an ass of himself.
Beyonce won Song of the Year, Best Female Pop Vocal Performance, Best Contemporary R&B Album, Best Female R&B Vocal Performance, Best Traditional R&B Vocal Performance and Best R&B Song. “Single Ladies” took Song of the Year and Best R&B Song.
At least one of my predictions was right; Lady Gaga won Best Electronic/Dance Album. She also won Best Dance Recording for “Poker Face.” It’s interesting she didn’t get the nod for Best New Artist, and Silversun Pickups were, though they released their first album in 2006. I was bummed some country band I’d never heard of won Best New Artist.
Another well-deserved award on the Grammy winners 2010 list was Best Pop Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocals, which went to The Black Eyed Peas for “I Gotta Feeling.” I have a troubled relationship to the Black Eyed Peas, though I did like that tune.
Album of the Year went to Taylor Swift for “Fearless,” which also won Best Country Album. She also won Best Female Country Vocal Performance for “White Horse.”
I found it very interesting that the Grammy winners 2010 list for Best Solo Rock Performance, Best Hard Rock Performance and Best Metal Performance reads like a Grammy winners 1980 list: Bruce Springsteen, AC/DC and Judas Priest. Some other blasts from the past among the nominees list were Eric Clapton, Metallica, Alice in Chains, Prince, Neil Young, Bob Dylan, Megadeth and Slayer.
When you get it, you got it for life. One wonders if Beyonce in 20 years will still be getting Grammys. You can check out the Grammy winners 2010 list at PopCrunch, or the list of winners and nominees on the Grammy website.
